The Internet Archive has an entire museum dedicated to the weirdest art of the early web. 🖼️
It's called GifCities.
Thousands of animated GIFs rescued from the first generation of the internet.
Glitter. Dancing. Cats. Strange little loops that somehow survived the decades. 💾
Go find your perfect retro GIF.

I am reading the EU Kids Act, and I want to be clear and concise: fuck online age verification.
That said, if I am reading it right, fedi instances *could* be configured in a way that spares them from age verification requirements?
Age verification is basically Chapter II Section I Article 6 point 1 of the Act:
https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:52026PC0681#:~:text=minors-,Article,service,-%2E
There are 5 things that each individually can make a social media service or video-sharing platform required to do age verification:
I think my favourite genre of alt text is on photos of cats sleeping in odd positions where the author goes "Yeah this is my cat, I am familiar with their habits and can confirm they have the normal number of limbs and regular feline anatomy, and even I can't work out what's going on here"
(and no, I don't have a clue why these points are numbered (d) through (h) instead of (a) through (e); probably some operator error?)
Your bio: contrarian. Devil's advocate.
My reaction: block.
@neil
"fluent in sarcasm"
Oh I'm sorry, I only speak a little sarcasm, I'm trying to brush up on my kindness instead.
@hipsterelectron journalistic integrity... not found hehe
What is that in Truss lettuce heads?
@Phosphenes It wasn't even close!
@jamesb @gilester45 Sounds fun.

Here's how exactly Telegram provides user data to U.S. authorities. A letter recently filed in court shows how Telegram transfers that data, such as IP address and phone number.

🔥Our history, going up in flames! What is happening in the UK? Fires are destroying so many of our historical Victoria mills.
Dalton Mills in Keighley had yet another "mysterious" fire a few weeks ago. I explored this spot a few years ago, now all this history is lost.
For future generations, I worry how much will be left of our British industrial heritage.

This morning, our crew spotted an overcrowded rubber boat in distress with 39 people on board, including 6 women, 2 minors, 2 children and 2 babies.
Everyone was safely evacuated onto the Louise Michel.
As the team was finishing the rescue, they overheard another mayday relay. Sadly, when they arrived on scene, the boat had been intercepted. Our crew found an empty boat and saw an unidentified boat leaving the area with people on board.
The Louise Michel is now en route to its designated port of Reggia Calabria.
No one should have to put themselves in danger in their search for a self-determined life.
Freedom of movement for all!

@rysiek attempting to comply is a mistake in my view. It legitimises these things.

@hipsterelectron huh, how bad is the performance hit for browser and desktop use for non-accelerated rendering? Are we talking 4K monitors feel bad with poor refresh that actually impacts use or are we just bitching about shit?
@c0dec0dec0de i just hate the tone, as if they've been wasting their time on bullshit when graphics drivers are uniformly some of the most completely fucked shit in the entire world
